Beginning A Blog About Boise

So…you may be asking yourself how this blog started. Allow me to explain.

My name is Celeste and in one week from today, we will officially be residents of Idaho. You see, my husband, Ron works for a great company: GoEngineer. They sell design software like SolidWorks and PDM sort of stuff. They also do 3D printing. (I know it sounds like I know what I’m saying…I don’t). Anyway, they have a satellite office in Boise that has been vacant for a few years. A few years ago, we considered taking it over – but the timing didn’t feel right so we passed on the opportunity. Fast forward a couple years and the company is getting a bit more serious about getting someone in that office. We felt the time was right. We went back and forth for a few weeks trying to decide if we really wanted to uproot our kids and leave friends and family that we love so dearly. It wasn’t an easy task! We decided to just take the leap and do it.

Our kids reacted in the way I expected them to. They were heartbroken and crying. Enough to make a mama change her mind and say nevermind! We talked about it and decided that even though it would be hard, we would lean on each other and take this adventure together.

After the discussions with our families and giving notice at my job (which I LOVED and REALLY REALLY REALLY didn’t want to leave), we started the process of getting our home ready to sell and looking for a new one in Boise. We’d been to Boise a few times over the last couple of years on tag-along trips with Ron when he had to work but knew nothing of the areas, the schools, the hard-core gangs (joking). We were connected through a friend to a WONDERFUL realtor, Lori Laney! She took us around during Memorial weekend and we saw almost 30 homes. She was phenomenal about showing us really great neighborhoods and giving us input on schools. He knowledge of B-Town was invaluable! We had to make a couple of different trips to Boise find a house because offers weren’t being accepted, or the sellers were looney. With our Utah home closing on July 20, we HAD to find something and quick or we’d be homeless. We finally got an offer made and accepted only 3 weeks before July 20. Our lender, Landon Kesler at Idaho First Mortgage and his team have been AMAZING to work with! They are getting things done on a rush for us (again…don’t want to be homeless).

Knowing nothing about Idaho or the area at ALL…I thought it’d be helpful to start a journal/blog about things we find to do, places to explore, good food, etc. Follow us in our journey as we begin to explore Boise.

I remember rolling into town and feeling like I was totally out of my element. I didn’t know anything about B-Town and all of the sudden, I was craving connection. I was comfortable in my small Utah bubble. I had friends and family, I had a great job, I knew where the closest grocery store…

  • Chip Cookie Co.

We are a cookie family. Sunday evening tradition is making cookies (and mostly eating all the dough). We’ll take a good cookie over cake or cupcakes any day! When we heard that the Utah based company, Chip Cookie Co. had just opened a location in Boise, we had to do it! If you’ve never had…

    Radio Stations

If you’re anything like me, you’d rather listen to local radio. That satellite, streaming, online thing isn’t really my thing. Unless of course, I’m on a road trip – then I’ll use Spotify or stuff I’ve downloaded on iTunes. Moving to Boise and finding stations that I liked was first on my list (well…maybe not…

    Regions of Idaho

I remember watching the news during our first month and wondering where all these places were that they’d mention. 6 On Your Side gives regional weather forecasts and I had no clue where the hell the Magic Valley was, or what cities were included in the west central region. I didn’t even know that the…

  • The Mall – Boise Town Square

Whether you’re looking for just the right outfit, buying the kids new clothes because they won’t stop growing, or doing a little retail therapy, a Mall will certainly fill your needs. One of the great things about Boise is the abundance of shopping and great stores – both national chains and local goodies. The Boise…

  • Home Buying

I’m sure that Idaho is full of amazing Realtors. We were connected with Lori through a friend in Utah. She has an endless amount of energy and she’s spunky! Lori worked tirelessly to help us in our home search. Our search involved several weekend trips from Utah, FaceTime walkthroughs, phone calls and emails. It was…
