It’s true – I’m a total soda snob! There’s nothing better than a cold and refreshing fountain drink. Utah is the trifecta of special soda stops: Pop Shop, Swig, Sodalicious, Fizz and several others. In addition to these specialty shops, there are Maverick Stores on nearly every corner and McDonald’s almost always delivered the perfect blend of flavoring. Utahans LOVE their caffeine in soda form. I always knew the best stops along the freeway and through the Salt Lake valley.
Boise has been a bit different in that arena. Sure, there are a couple of soda shops (Sodalicious recently moved in from Utah), and there are Maverick stores and McDonalds. Maverick stores in Idaho have really been hit or miss. It’s never consistent and there aren’t many in the Treasure Valley. McDonalds have been mostly a miss for me – again, there aren’t many locations and I don’t know why, but I have yet to be served a decent tasting soda.
Needless to say, I’ve tried lots of places and Jacksons is where it’s at! There are MANY locations throughout the valley, their ratio of soda water/flavoring is spot on! I also think the ice plays a big role – if the ice is nasty, the drink will taste nasty. From what I understand, Jacksons uses filtered water for a pure, tasteless ice. I think I’ll head to the nearest Jacksons and snag a 24 oz Diet Dr. Pepper right now!
